West Dean Gardens
The gardens are about fifteen miles from the pub and take half an hour to drive.
The gardens cover an area of 35 acres of ornamental grounds surrounding West Dean college. The lavant valley garden consists of a 300ft long pergola and a gazebo set in a tranquil downland setting in the lavant valley. There is a walled kitchen garden which dates from the Edwardian age with thirteen original glasshouses dating from the 1890's. The glasshouses house vineries, peaches, figs, chilli peppers, exotic fruit, vegetables and a floral display.
There is a 2 and a half mile walk that encompasses a fine collection of specimen trees and shrubs.
